A kaleidoscope of colours at Annette's pool

When I was at the new Annette Kellermann Aquatic Centre 10 days ago I captured some amazing reflections in the water.

There were so many beautiful colours, patterns and shimmery shapes it reminded me of looking through a kaleidoscope.

The vibrant greens, yellows, oranges and reds of the newly opened aquatic centre took on new shades reflected in the water.

The pool became a dreamy world of purple, mauve, soft greens, pale pink, faded red, light yellows and blue.

Just the sort of seductive space Marrickville-born Annette Kellermann would have enjoyed diving into during her days performing across Europe and the United States as the Australian Mermaid and Diving Venus in the early 1900s.

Great you have become a follower Carol - welcome to swimming pool stories. Not sure what I will do with these photos but a friend wants to have a go at turning them into paintings. Will continue to look for reflections in pools and all sorts of interesting angles. Happy New Year. Therese

A shorter future for Petersham Pool

Marrickville Council had decided to reduce the length of the Fanny Durack Aquatic Centre at Petersham from 33-metres to 25-metres to "bring it in line with FINA and short-course standards". At the same time the six-lane pool will be widened by 2 lanes. While some locals are pleased there will continue to be a pool in Petersham Park, the Save Petersham Pool Facebook group are not happy about the reduction in length.

Manuka Pool manager says goodbye

Heritage-listing for McIver's
On International Women's Day, the NSW Heritage Council recommneded that the women's-only McIver's Baths in Sydney's Coogee be incuded on the state's heritage register. This morning, ABC 702 presenter Deb Cameron interviewed 85-year-old Nancy Bennett, who has been swimming at the ocean pool since she was three.

High-profile swimming coach Laurie Lawrence approached the university to start the study.
